Ida Red

Available: Early October

Taste: Sweet, tart

Use: Baking

History:

A cross of the Jonathan and Wagener apples, this apple was introduced in 1942. The Ida Red's taste is very similar to tart, tangy flavor of the Jonathan apple.  However, this apple is much larger than the Jonathan.  It keeps very well and many people enjoy baking with this apple, even though it may not be as recognized as other baking apples.
