Dock

Other Names: Curly Dock

Color: Green

Uses:

This plant is a very dense long plant that grows in deep, moist soil.  Later in the season the plant turns from green to a dark rust brown color.  We use this plant most often to wrap wreathes before decorating. However, historically this plant had many other uses. It is know to be very helpful for impure blood, and many used it as a tea. Such a tea was also good for dysentery and bowel complaints including constipation. It was used as poultice for skin diseases, swellings, and syphilis. It's also proven to be a great ointment for itching and sores.  People often rubbed the leaves in mouth for sore throats.  Curly dock and bitter dock roots have also been used by the Chippewa Indians in poultices for itching and skin eruptions.
